Burdens
People rushing by, do they see what I see?
Look into their faces, morose, dark sombre
Sullen is the mouth, droopy are the eyes
What burdens do they carry, what anguish
Tormented thoughts as they thread the sidewalks
Like the Salmon swimming upriver
Against a stream of bodies, like minded
Flowing both ways they tread, and tread.
Bobbing now and then, stopping to look
Do they see what I see in those weary stares?
Not understanding the futility of it all, they swim
A canopy of nebulous thoughts suppress the light
